The Madrigal MkII is Westbrook’s new floorstanding model featuring a 17cm polypropylene-coned bass driver and a 27mm fabric dome tweeter in a smart and elegant cabinet. More compact than its predecessor, this new design is discreet enough to blend into most listening rooms whilst benefiting from the power handling and scale of a larger loudspeaker. The bass-mid unit is a Danish-designed driver with a proprietary polymer cone and a soft rubber surround for better transient response, a clear midrange and excellent long-term reliability. The cast aluminium chassis and pole piece are well vented and the silver lead-out wires lower compression and improve power handling.
For the Madrigal, we chose the same 26mm fabric dome that is used in the larger Cardinal. More than a dozen treble units were auditioned and this was eventually selected for its smooth, open and dynamic sound. It has a remarkably flat response and its low distortion means that it is detailed and clear without becoming fatiguing. The crossover is a simple second-order/third order filter and as with all Westbrook Loudspeakers, only high grade audiophile components are used. Standard finishes are natural oak, walnut and black oak with other finishes made to order (satin white, zebrano or rosenut)
